Rowan ‘Iceland’ Sweater

Posted on: Friday, June 26th, 2009

From Rowan Magazine #42

From Rowan Magazine #42

This is ‘Iceland’ from Rowan Magazine #42.  It is knit in Rowan Cocoon, I used shade 804 - Shale.  I knit the large size and it took 10 balls of yarn.  It is knit on 7mm needles.

I love this jumper but haven’t had a chance to wear it yet as I finished it just as winter was finishing and it’s way to warm to wear unless it’s pretty cold.

This is another good project for those of you who don’t like to sew seams.  It is knit in one piece from sleeve to sleeve, picking up stitched for the ribbed waist at the end.  The only seams are under the arms, the sides fasten with 3 buttons either side.

Although the pattern may look a little complicated, it isn’t.  I found it really easy to memorise and could follow where I was without the pattern after a few repeats.  It is simple cables and yarn overs, nothing scary!

All Rowan yarn and books are on sale in the shop, so now is a perfect time for this project but you have to hurry as once the stock is gone, it’s gone!  Cocoon is £5.44 per ball, reduced from £7.25 and you can buy the magazine for £8.21, reduced from £10.95.  Please bear in mind that we will not be replacing this stock once it’s cleared so make sure you buy enough yarn for your project.

February Lady Sweater

Posted on: Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

This is the beautiful ‘February Lady Sweater’ by Pamela Wynnne.  It is available as a free Ravelry download.February Lady Sweater

The cardigan is based on Elizabeth Zimmerman’s February project for a baby sweater from the ‘Knitter’s Almanac’ and has been adapted to fit a full size woman!

This project can be knit in any aran weight yarn.  I have used Debbie Bliss ‘Cashmerino Aran’ in shade 300003 and I used exactly 10 balls to complete the small size (the sizes for this sweater come up large, I would never usually be a small, especially as this was worn a lot during my pregnancy!).

Other materials required for this sweater are 3 x 7/8″ buttons (approx 22mm or closest), 5mm 32 ” (80cm) circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge), 5mm dpns (or size needed to obtain gauge) and 6mm needle (for bind-off), or a needle 1mm larger than that used to knit the sweater.

Gauge for the sweater is 18 stitches to 10cm over garter stitch.

This really is a fun and easy knit that doesn’t take too long and for all of you who hate to sew seams, this is the perfect project as it is knit in one piece, picking up the sleeve stitches after completing the body.  It’s the favourite thing I’ve ever knit to wear!

This pattern is also available in Let’s Knit! Magazine’s ‘Hey Baby’ Supplement form 18 May 2009.

I used wooden clothes pegs to attach the toy to the pram.  When making the toy, be sure that the ribbons are secure and do not leave baby unattended with the toy.  Of course, all the yarn required to make this beautiful toy are available in the shop and the other materials should be available at any good craft shop.
